Understanding The Simple Complexity of UI/UX

Many creatives now include UI/UX in their title. Arguably, it’s something the good ones have been experts at for years. However with the move to digital engagements — online, in the cloud, and in corporate intranets — this skill set has expanded in need and scope. 

The truth is the concept of UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience) require an expert eye and understanding of user interactions. But, explaining them is actually rather simple. 

UI is the part of the app, website, intranet, or other technology a user sees, hears, or feels. It’s the outer skin of the tool.  

UX is the path and touch points the user interacts with to get the information they are seeking. This is everything that creates the experience a user has when interacting with the tool — the back end technology, databases, company brand, availability, pricing.

The reality of this marketing discipline is that it’s easy to understand but complicated to implement. It takes a rich understanding of how to create websites, intranets, and apps that are aesthetically pleasing while ensuring a user can access the information they need, when they need it, they way they want to find it.
